Annie

Today, Glowing Color features Annie.
“I’m from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I work for a Financial company part time and I’m a mother of 1. I spend a lot of time outdoors in every season. I love to travel and take culinary classes.
Annie’s Color Interview:
What color do you wear the most? Bright green and red and blush pink
What color do you wear the least? Black, brown and olive green
In what color do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? Green and red and pink
In what color do you receive the most compliments? Green and red

I could immediately that Annie’s hair color was too dark for her. Annie has these big, beautiful, green eyes that were being overpowered by her long, dark, hair. This imbalance also overshadowed her face. Right away, Winter and Autumn were eliminated. After a careful look at her in the lighter colors, I could fairly easily see that the lighter warm tones were washing her face out and not doing justice to her eyes. But in the lighter cool tones, her face took on an ethereal glow and her eyes came more into focus. Annie is a Summer. As often seen in the Color Interviews, she was on the right track with her frequently-worn and complimented bright pinks and greens. Reds work for some Summers and I would tweak it to a pure, brilliant primary red like Winters often wear, for Annie. I sent Annie some recommendations for lightening up her clothes and hair color. I think she will begin a dramatic transformation with these colors.

Chizuka

Today, Glowing Color features Chizuka.
“I am from Tokyo, Japan. Came here (los angeles, California) in 2006. I was working 5 years as a carpenter until 2011. Now, I am studying construction business in college, but having said that, I am a girly girl, I love wearing dresses and heels; Although, I do wear sweat pants and sandals most of the times because I am also a mom of one 2 years boy and twin baby boys… But, I still want to look good in sweatpants! I do flamenco dance as my hobby. I love all kind of dancing.(hip hop, Argentine tangos..etc).”

Chizuka’s Color Interview:
What color do you wear the most? Black, gray, purple, beige
What color do you wear the least? Orange, red, green
In what color do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? Light pink( salmon pink or baby pink)
In what color do you receive the most compliments? Black

Chizuka in cooler colors:

Summer                                            gray  whitepale pink pinklilacaqua

Spring                                                brown yellow

Chizuka is a Winter. I knew it the second I saw her in the cobalt blue. The warm colors washed her out, but she is absolutely glowing in the cool jewel tones of Winter. I think once she starts adding those bolder colors into her wardrobe she will feel like a new woman! Chizuka definitely tends to naturally gravitate toward summer colors. She’s on the right track with the cool tones, but just needs to make them deeper and more vibrant to incorporate Winter. Chizuka, I especially know how it feels to be a mom of young children and feeling drab….then turning it all around with the right colors. It is so refreshing! I can’t wait to see your updates!

Linda

Today, Glowing Color features Linda.

Linda is a Human Resources Analyst from California, and her favorite thing to do is travel and take pictures.

Linda’s Color Interview:

What color do you wear the most? I wear mostly black and navy

What color do you wear the least? I hardly ever wear pastels

In what color do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? I think I look my best in black and darker pinks

In what color do you receive the most compliments? Recently, someone told me I look good in dark grey. But, I’ve also been told that I look very pale in the same color 🙂

Linda is a Winter. There was an obvious difference with Linda between the cooler and warmer colors, as the warmer colors washed her out. The colors of Summer showed some promise, but were still ultimately too light. When I saw Linda in the strong blue and green jewel tones of Winter, I saw her face glow. I looked at her first instead of her shirt colors. This is always an easy giveaway with the bolder Winter tones because it is easy to want to look at the colors of the outfit first. If the eye is drawn to your face first, you have a winner.

Erin

Today, Glowing Color features Erin.

“Hi I am Erin from Kentucky, a 35-year-old physician. In my spare time I enjoy running or being outside reading or with my dogs. I have typically identified with warmer colors for my make-up and to cover my rosacea, however, I am not drawn to those colors in clothing. In fact I had to use some of my husband’s dress shirts and sweaters for the photos.”

Erin’s Color Interview:

What color do you wear the most? black! Gray

What color do you wear the least? brown/yellow/orange/pastels

In what color do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? royal blue

In what color do you receive the most compliments? I wear neutral so often it is probably when I wear color such as royal blue or jewel tones.

Erin in cooler colors:

Erin in warmer colors:

Erin is a Winter. For me, it was clear nearly immediately. The 2nd or so picture I opened was of Erin in black and she was sparkling in it. The rest of the pictures quickly confirmed, as her skin looks clear and beautiful in the cool colors, while the warm colors are washing her out a bit. Erin looks sharp and gorgeous in the deep, bold, cool tones of winter. Her Color Interview reflects the subconscious pull she had toward the correct colors which is great! This means Erin likely has a good foundation to start from with her existing clothes when she goes shopping.

Maria

Today, Glowing Color features Maria.

Maria’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most?

Yellow and black.

What color(s) do you wear the least?

Pink, red, white.

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful?

Yellow, red, blue.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments?

Yellow, red, lilac, violet.

Maria in cooler colors:

 fuchsiablueturquoisejade

Maria in warmer colors:

mustard

Although I did not have a large sample size to work with, I can see that Maria is a Winter. The mustard-yellow is a pretty easy giveaway, as that is a strong color, and will easily “out” someone as warm or cool. In Maria’s case, the mustard washes her out. As for the cooler colors, I see a difference in the darker, bolder tones than the lighter turquoise and jade. Maria should eschew the yellow in her wardrobe and seek out the deep and vibrant cool jewel tones.

Michelle

Today, Glowing Color features Michelle.

About Michelle: “I live in Washington State, and I am an Aerospace Engineer. I enjoy watching reading, football, and running. I’m kinda a tomboy but also enjoy fashion, makeup and shopping.”

Michelle’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most?

Black.

What color(s) do you wear the least?

Beige, yellow, orange.

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful?

Fuchsia or dark pink.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments?

Burgundy/Black.

Michelle in warmer colors:

Michelle is gorgeous! She sent some extra photos that I did not use on the blog with her hair down and she has such a striking look. Michelle’s season was pretty obvious to me with almost the first photo I saw. Michelle is a Winter. The warm colors wash her out, but the cool colors bring her beautiful brown eyes into sharp focus and flow against her dark hair.

Ali

Today, Glowing Color features Ali.

About Ali: “My name is Ali, I’m 21 years old, a college student living in San Diego. I discovered color analysis at the beginning of high school and have been struggling ever since trying I discover what season I am. I’ve jumped around all of them, never being able to come to a complete answer. I’ve dyed my hair since I was in middle school, so that may have lead to a lot of confusion for me. I started out super pale blonde as a child, which darkened to a medium brown and eventually dark brown with a red tinge to it. My hair has been every color of the rainbow, blonde and orange-red being the worst on me! I love fashion and books, candles and pug dogs. Follow me on Pinterest @Alexzandra Lansing!”

Ali’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most?

I wear a lot of black–it’s simple, matches with everything, and I’ve been told it looks good on me. I also wear white for the same reasons.

What color(s) do you wear the least?

Orange and brown. I’ve always felt muddy when I wore them!

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful?

I feel sexy in red or white.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments?

I get compliments in both light and dark blue, purple, yellow, and black, and hot pink.

Ali in cooler colors:

 blackgraywhiteredpinkpurplebluegreen

Ali in warmer colors:

light tanbrownlight yelloworangetomato

Another woman with beautiful eyes! Extra points to Ali for the creativity in the “orange” photo, haha. Ali is a Summer. The warm tones she has in her hair dye are throwing off her look a bit; they make her skin look flat. But when you compare the cooler tones to the warmer tones, you can see a clear difference. The warmer colors wash her out a bit, but Ali’s face positively lights up in the cooler colors, and the paler colors of Summer would greatly flatter her. I am especially hoping she sends us some updated photos since her current ones are mostly darker and brighter colors. Also notice from her Color Interview where she mentions she feels “muddy” in brown and orange. Ali intuitively knew what colors she should avoid, but just needed some fine tuning regarding shades and tones. Ali says she wears a lot of black, which is often a safe color for a lot of people. I am excited to see her branch out and lighten up her wardrobe!

This is closer to Ali’s natural hair color, which helped me visualize her Summer colors that much more!

Aisha’s Wedding Colors

Glowing Color is excited to announce that we will now be providing wedding color consultations! Aisha, who was just featured, is getting married next spring and wants to know the best colors for her venue and of course her season.

turquoise peach

Aisha is a Summer. Her reception venue is quite warm with brick and red accents, so that poses a challenge with getting the cool colors that flatter Aisha without clashing with the venue. My immediate instinct flew to the blues and greens of the color scale to complement the oranges and reds in the venue.

Aisha has picked her gown (which is a gorgeous, classic strapless gown that will have a reverse lace jacket over it).

Makeup:

I would love to see Aisha in some subtle blue eye makeup like this

blue eyeliner

or this

Blue eye makeup

Or a more dramatic eye like this

blue eyeliner 2

These would set off her blue eyes and skin tone so beautifully! For a lip, a subtle pink would work.

Prime lips with moisture with a bit of Whipped’s strawberry lip balm, then something like MAC Plushglass in Ample Pink

Ample Pink

Possible jewelry:

Another hint of blue should come from the earrings. I am a sucker for dangling gemstone earrings. I think my eyes literally turn to hearts when I see a nice pair. With a gorgeous strapless gown like the one she has, she can afford a little drama with the earrings if she keeps a bare neckline (which I imagine she will have with the lace jacket).

One. Two. Three. Four. Five.

Bridesmaid dresses:

The ideal color based on Aisha’s venue and her own coloring for bridesmaid dresses should be a gorgeous blue-green. Not too deep of a turquoise, and not too pale of an aqua. Below are some examples of the color.

blue green bridesmaid dress

turquoise dresses

Bouquets:

With blue-green bridesmaid dresses, a mix of pink and red roses would contrast beautifully and pull in the red from Aisha’s venues (there are red curtains there).

fuchsia red bouquet pinks reds creams roses

I love both of these looks. The first is more casual and rustic, which actually fits Aisha’s venue nicely (the reception is in a barn). The second is more formal, but is so gorgeous. I love an all-rose bouquet; it is classic, timeless, and includes a stunning variation of reds, pinks, and white/creams.

Hopefully, this gives Aisha a great foundation to start putting together her colors and decor for her wedding. I hope she keeps us posted and sends us photos of the wedding. She will be a beautiful bride!

Aisha

Today, Glowing Color features Aisha.

About Aisha: I would like to know which season I am as I am getting married next year and I don’t want the colours in the bouquet to wash me out!! I live in Wilmslow, Cheshire in England (near to Manchester) and work as a Marketing, Sales and Events Co-ordinator for a company that organises stag and hen weekends. I used to work in law but I missed using my creative side (I used to love writing when younger and always have ideas for things), so I changed jobs last year and hope to get qualified in marketing after I get married next year. I live with my fiance and we’re busy planning our wedding at the moment  for next year and, like I did when we did up the house, I have loved using my bargain hunting and obsessive research skills to get the best deals! I like keeping fit and you can’t keep me off the dance floor when I am out!

I am very excited to work with Aisha and help her choose colors for her wedding. I am splitting Aisha’s analysis into two separate posts-this one with the standard color analysis, and the next one will feature wedding color ideas!

Aisha’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most?

Blue in all kinds of shades (though I prefer brighter or aqua colours and don’t really like pastels as I don’t think they really reflect me as a person). Black as it goes with everything. I do have a few coral and purple items too.

What color(s) do you wear the least?

Brown or beige – in fact, I don’t think I have one brown item in my wardrobe! I’m not a big neutral fan (apart from black)- I like things bright and beautiful!

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful?

It depends on the fit – I gravitate towards brighter colours and feel sexier in those but I struggle to get things to fit me as I have a large bust and so I often have to settle for clothes that don’t fit or colours that don’t suit – it’s rare to find both.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments?

Blues, greens and purples.

Aisha is a Summer. She looks best in the softer cool colors vs the more bold cool colors, but compared to warm colors it is no contest. The warmer colors wash her out and age her face. She looks ethereal in the soft blues and pinks of Summer, and can carry off some of the deeper colors as well. Keep in mind her natural hair color is a darker blonde than shown here, and some different tones of blonde could really enhance her natural glow. Also, notice how her interview gave away her natural instinct for her best colors!

Skinny Black Girl

Today I am featuring a friend of mine, the amazingly talented writer of the award-winning Skinny Black Girl blog.

SBG’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most?

I wear a lot of black. I try to keep my wardrobe minimalistic (I hate stuff) and I find that black pieces are easy to repeat because they don’t stand out too much. Also, I’m a huge fan of the little black dress looks of the early 90s. Now that I’m a grown up, I just wanna look like En Vogue. lol.

What color(s) do you wear the least?

Pastels, in general. I find they’re too soft for my liking. I either like neutrals or bold colors.

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful?

My go-to sexy color was red, but cobalt blue is creeping up the list.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments?

Red, cobalt blue, and bold purples.

SBG in cooler colors:

black

white black

SBG in warmer colors:

linen green

SBG is a Winter. I see more of SBG than what is represented here, so I can personally attest to the fact that she looks stunning in the bold, cool, jewel tones of Winter. The blue she is pictured in is more of a Summer blue, but in the cobalts and royal blues, she glows like no other! The warmer, softer colors either wash her out or just sit on her. SBG is one of those women who I see and instantly know their season. If you read her interview, the answer is reflected there as well. As a matter of fact, what I would consider her top 3 colors are the colors she gets complimented on most. I think once she starts shopping with the narrower eye of Winter, she is going to be so happy with her purchases going forward (especially as a minimalist).

redlinen green

Side-by-sides are a little difficult here because of the lighting differences in some of the photos, but you can get a general idea. The red lips and coat against her skin are lovely and enchanting. I LOVE the green dress with the stockings, but on SBG the warm, muted green does not light her up the same way. See the difference?
