Annie

Today, Glowing Color features Annie.
“I’m from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I work for a Financial company part time and I’m a mother of 1. I spend a lot of time outdoors in every season. I love to travel and take culinary classes.
Annie’s Color Interview:
What color do you wear the most? Bright green and red and blush pink
What color do you wear the least? Black, brown and olive green
In what color do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? Green and red and pink
In what color do you receive the most compliments? Green and red
Annie in cooler colors:

Spring                                            Annie creamAnnie light yellow

I could immediately that Annie’s hair color was too dark for her. Annie has these big, beautiful, green eyes that were being overpowered by her long, dark, hair. This imbalance also overshadowed her face. Right away, Winter and Autumn were eliminated. After a careful look at her in the lighter colors, I could fairly easily see that the lighter warm tones were washing her face out and not doing justice to her eyes. But in the lighter cool tones, her face took on an ethereal glow and her eyes came more into focus. Annie is a Summer. As often seen in the Color Interviews, she was on the right track with her frequently-worn and complimented bright pinks and greens. Reds work for some Summers and I would tweak it to a pure, brilliant primary red like Winters often wear, for Annie. I sent Annie some recommendations for lightening up her clothes and hair color. I think she will begin a dramatic transformation with these colors.

Ali

I recently completed a Glowing Color Consultation for Ali, a stay-at-home mom in Wisconsin. She has ash blonde hair, and greenish-gray eyes. She wears black, pink, gray, navy, and white the most.
After evaluating her photos, I determined Ali is a Spring. She should gradually shift her most-worn colors to blush/peach, coral, cream, olive, and light yellow. She can use charcoal gray as a replacement to black and can still wear navy in some instances (especially as bottoms).

Below is a sampling of some items I sent for her to shop in the format of a Color Board. She also wanted some hair color recommendations, so I sent her a couple of examples of a rich, golden blonde.

Yellow, Gold: A Power Color Love Story

Picture it. 13 year old me. Freshman in high school. I was quiet, reserved on the surface but HILARIOUS around my circle (HILARIOUS, I say). There were whispers about him. Whispers about him and me. Him and me, we hadn’t actually met. We had seen each other, from a distance, when the other wasn’t looking. Decisions were made, from the Chorus at any given high school, the Chorus who decides two people would be so cute together. Decisions were made to introduce us. I knew in advance that this was going down, like some gossip-based Minority Report lottery ball. So I prepared.

A short-sleeved, space-dyed yellow top and jeans would be the foundation.

This was the best Google Images could do. Work with the vision, people.

A light coating of Covergirl’s gold eyeshadow.

I lived for the individual rectangles of color from Covergirl. LIVED.

A golden zig-zag headband, to pull my long, relaxed-straight (but bumped at the ends just so with rollers from that weekend) back into a lion’s mane, in my mind.

headband

I can just hear the breakage of crown-hairs. Memories.

Light yellow nail polish. See, in high school, I was KNOWN as the girl who matched everything. When I say everything, I mean everything. It was not a gotdamn game. I loved a monochrome look.

polish

And smelled of the finest in Victoria’s Secret Vanilla-ries.

I had different-colored and scented lotions to match my outfits too. I told you it was. Not. A. Damn. Game.

Guess who could not be told sh*t with this total ensemble?

me

The Big Day arrived. Lunchtime. A picnic-table by the big window in the cafeteria. I sat with familiar faces. And then…he was brought to me. I, normally shy, reserved, a bit socially anxious…felt none of that. I felt cool. Confident. Nonchalant. I turned around to face him, leaning back against the table with my elbows propped up. Cool as a cucumber (why is that a saying, anyway). We said our nice-to-meet-yous. Smiles. A brief moment that was soon over.

That was nearly 19 years ago….and we’ve been married nearly 10 years. I am not sure if you can call it Love At First Sight, but the other love story that happened was between me and the color yellow.

Yellow is my Power Color. I can conquer all things and dazzle all people when I wear yellow, gold, and their varieties. I feel like a Golden Goddess from head to toe. Although I did not realize this until well into adulthood, it is interesting tracing back to that moment…I instinctively knew that, to make my best impression, I was to wear Yellow. That quiet confidence I exuded…may have set the stage for so much.

Aside: To this day, vanilla remains one of my favorite scents (though no Vanilla Lace is in my current collection, alas).

I love having the memory of the moment my husband and I first met, so long ago. I love that I remember what I was wearing. I love that Color is such a strong part of so many of my nostalgic moments.

I knew my Power Color at a young age and it continues to be my favorite color to wear. Let me find your Power Color and help you create your own Color Stories.

Chizuka

Today, Glowing Color features Chizuka.
“I am from Tokyo, Japan. Came here (los angeles, California) in 2006. I was working 5 years as a carpenter until 2011. Now, I am studying construction business in college, but having said that, I am a girly girl, I love wearing dresses and heels; Although, I do wear sweat pants and sandals most of the times because I am also a mom of one 2 years boy and twin baby boys… But, I still want to look good in sweatpants! I do flamenco dance as my hobby. I love all kind of dancing.(hip hop, Argentine tangos..etc).”

Chizuka’s Color Interview:
What color do you wear the most? Black, gray, purple, beige
What color do you wear the least? Orange, red, green
In what color do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? Light pink( salmon pink or baby pink)
In what color do you receive the most compliments? Black

Chizuka in cooler colors:
Winter                                         black redblue

Summer                                            gray  whitepale pink pinklilacaqua

Chizuka in warmer colors:                                                                                                    Autumn                                                                           orangedark teal

Spring                                                brown yellow

Chizuka is a Winter. I knew it the second I saw her in the cobalt blue. The warm colors washed her out, but she is absolutely glowing in the cool jewel tones of Winter. I think once she starts adding those bolder colors into her wardrobe she will feel like a new woman! Chizuka definitely tends to naturally gravitate toward summer colors. She’s on the right track with the cool tones, but just needs to make them deeper and more vibrant to incorporate Winter. Chizuka, I especially know how it feels to be a mom of young children and feeling drab….then turning it all around with the right colors. It is so refreshing! I can’t wait to see your updates!

Rachael

Today, Glowing Color features Rachael.

My name is Rachael, I’m a teacher I used to teach English as a foreign language and I’ve taught in South America – Argentina and Colombia and the middle east – Qatar and Europe – Spain and the UK – England and Scotland where I am from. I’m now back in Scotland,  Edinburgh where I went to uni and I’m training to become a high school teacher, teaching social studies and politics in high schools. After living a relaxed traveller lifestyle , I am now attempting to dress more smartly and like a professional but in my own style which is why I’m interested in colour analysis.

Rachael’s Color Interview:

What color do you wear the most? black, grey, and green

What color do you wear the least? light colours

In what color do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? I feel best in dark khaki green

In what color do you receive the most compliments? light colours like blues but perhaps that’s because I don’t often wear them.

Rachael is a Spring. She looks best in the light, warm portion of the color spectrum. She did not have many examples in these colors, so I think she will begin to notice a major difference after she goes shopping to incorporate more of these colors in her wardrobe. Note that she feels best in khaki green, which tends to be warm/muted. If she goes a little lighter and warmer (a green with more yellow than brown), she will begin to see the glow. The outfits she did have that fall under Spring could use a little tweaking in color, which I am including details of in her Color Shopping List. She also wants to play around with some different hair colors, so I sent some examples of that as well, as I think she has been going too cool/dark/ash blonde. It probably feels right to be drawn to the Winter colors since they are so bold of a contrast against her hair, but once she finds the exact Spring colors to bring out her own personal glow, the difference will be stark. My eye was drawn to her clothes first in the cooler colors, and I was easily able to rule those seasons out. I am so excited for her to see her Color Shopping List!

Erin

Today, Glowing Color features Erin.

“Hi I am Erin from Kentucky, a 35-year-old physician. In my spare time I enjoy running or being outside reading or with my dogs. I have typically identified with warmer colors for my make-up and to cover my rosacea, however, I am not drawn to those colors in clothing. In fact I had to use some of my husband’s dress shirts and sweaters for the photos.”

Erin’s Color Interview:

What color do you wear the most? black! Gray

What color do you wear the least? brown/yellow/orange/pastels

In what color do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? royal blue

In what color do you receive the most compliments? I wear neutral so often it is probably when I wear color such as royal blue or jewel tones.

Erin in cooler colors:

Erin in warmer colors:

Erin is a Winter. For me, it was clear nearly immediately. The 2nd or so picture I opened was of Erin in black and she was sparkling in it. The rest of the pictures quickly confirmed, as her skin looks clear and beautiful in the cool colors, while the warm colors are washing her out a bit. Erin looks sharp and gorgeous in the deep, bold, cool tones of winter. Her Color Interview reflects the subconscious pull she had toward the correct colors which is great! This means Erin likely has a good foundation to start from with her existing clothes when she goes shopping.

Mariah

Today, Glowing Color features Mariah. “Mother of 6, Home School Teacher/Interior Design Student/Ex-Dancer/Ex-singer (who still sings on occasion) and Health Instructor.  I am a Christian and love Jesus.  For fun I jam it up with some muso’s and perform live. I live in Australia.  Day to day I teach children and also keep my finger on the pulse for interior design.

Mariah’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most? For the last few months, close to a year I have worn neutrals because I don’t know what shades suit me best.  Aging makes it all confusing.  What do you wear when you are close to 50? I know that coral, deep beige corals, wheat beige, warm animal print and black have become staples. I can slide between cools and warms, but some warms don’t work and some cools don’t work, so really I just don’t know.

What color(s) do you wear the least? White and Blue (never wear them!)

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? Deep Red and Gold. Black if it’s cut beautifully with some oyster in it and a touch of lace for a hint of cleavage or leg… but just a hint.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments? Champagne.  Coral.  Black.  Brown.  Burgundy.

Mariah in cooler colors:

Mariah in warmer colors:

Mariah is an Autumn. I could identify her almost immediately, with the first photo she sent in of her in a tan sweater (not pictured), and the way it made her eyes and skin sparkle. Mariah has been confused by being typed in other seasons, but I think the problem is she has not ventured far enough into the more vibrant Autumn tones; most of her colors have been on the lighter to pastel side. Although her blog interview mentioned some good colors such as burgundy, gold, and coral, most of her warmer photographs were in lighter colors. I think she will notice a big difference after she goes a bit darker and more vivid with her clothes. She is on the right track though!

Maria

Today, Glowing Color features Maria.

Maria’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most?

Yellow and black.

What color(s) do you wear the least?

Pink, red, white.

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful?

Yellow, red, blue.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments?

Yellow, red, lilac, violet.

Maria in cooler colors:

 fuchsiablueturquoisejade

Maria in warmer colors:

mustard

Although I did not have a large sample size to work with, I can see that Maria is a Winter. The mustard-yellow is a pretty easy giveaway, as that is a strong color, and will easily “out” someone as warm or cool. In Maria’s case, the mustard washes her out. As for the cooler colors, I see a difference in the darker, bolder tones than the lighter turquoise and jade. Maria should eschew the yellow in her wardrobe and seek out the deep and vibrant cool jewel tones.

Michelle

Today, Glowing Color features Michelle.

About Michelle: “I live in Washington State, and I am an Aerospace Engineer. I enjoy watching reading, football, and running. I’m kinda a tomboy but also enjoy fashion, makeup and shopping.”

Michelle’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most?

Black.

What color(s) do you wear the least?

Beige, yellow, orange.

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful?

Fuchsia or dark pink.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments?

Burgundy/Black.

Michelle in cooler colors:

Michelle in warmer colors:

Michelle is gorgeous! She sent some extra photos that I did not use on the blog with her hair down and she has such a striking look. Michelle’s season was pretty obvious to me with almost the first photo I saw. Michelle is a Winter. The warm colors wash her out, but the cool colors bring her beautiful brown eyes into sharp focus and flow against her dark hair.

Ali

Today, Glowing Color features Ali.

About Ali: “My name is Ali, I’m 21 years old, a college student living in San Diego. I discovered color analysis at the beginning of high school and have been struggling ever since trying I discover what season I am. I’ve jumped around all of them, never being able to come to a complete answer. I’ve dyed my hair since I was in middle school, so that may have lead to a lot of confusion for me. I started out super pale blonde as a child, which darkened to a medium brown and eventually dark brown with a red tinge to it. My hair has been every color of the rainbow, blonde and orange-red being the worst on me! I love fashion and books, candles and pug dogs. Follow me on Pinterest @Alexzandra Lansing!”

Ali’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most?

I wear a lot of black–it’s simple, matches with everything, and I’ve been told it looks good on me. I also wear white for the same reasons.

What color(s) do you wear the least?

Orange and brown. I’ve always felt muddy when I wore them!

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful?

I feel sexy in red or white.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments?

I get compliments in both light and dark blue, purple, yellow, and black, and hot pink.

Ali in cooler colors:

 blackgraywhiteredpinkpurplebluegreen

Ali in warmer colors:

light tanbrownlight yelloworangetomato

Another woman with beautiful eyes! Extra points to Ali for the creativity in the “orange” photo, haha. Ali is a Summer. The warm tones she has in her hair dye are throwing off her look a bit; they make her skin look flat. But when you compare the cooler tones to the warmer tones, you can see a clear difference. The warmer colors wash her out a bit, but Ali’s face positively lights up in the cooler colors, and the paler colors of Summer would greatly flatter her. I am especially hoping she sends us some updated photos since her current ones are mostly darker and brighter colors. Also notice from her Color Interview where she mentions she feels “muddy” in brown and orange. Ali intuitively knew what colors she should avoid, but just needed some fine tuning regarding shades and tones. Ali says she wears a lot of black, which is often a safe color for a lot of people. I am excited to see her branch out and lighten up her wardrobe!

This is closer to Ali’s natural hair color, which helped me visualize her Summer colors that much more!
